bird gathering

went to the beach and saw all these birds flying around.  I thought there might be some fish in the area, I didn't see any but then again maybe they did.

rawdon's bar & lounge

located on malin road.  For those who don't know what "off licence" means, it means a shop licensed to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption off the premises, as opposed to a bar or public house which is licensed for consumption at the point of sale.

Ballinrobe Augustinian Priory

I took these photos in 2014 when we lived in Ballinrobe.  This was the first Augustinian friary built in the Connacht.  It was founded in 1313 by Elizabeth de Clare, the youngest of the three daughters of Gilbert de Clare, 6th Earl of Hertford. Her maternal grandfather was king Edward I.  She married John de Burgh in 1308 and had a son, William, in 1312. It is said that the friary was built to celebrate the birth of this son.
In 1400 Pope Boniface IX granted indulgences to all that could assist in the restoration and conservation of the friary, but a fire damaged it in 1413.
It was a wealthy monastery and in 1584 it owned approximately 120 acres of land, a mill and a water course.
The monastery kept going on despite the suppression ordered by King Henry VIII.

slow

drivers just hate being behind a tractor even out in the rural areas.  On a bigger road, the tractor will usually pull over and let the traffic pass by.
I'm heading down to Sligo today so I can have cataract surgery Tuesday morning.

a touch of snow

with all the wind and occasional rain, we still managed a tiny bit of snow.  Some places had icy streets.  This is the children's playground down by the water.   I happened to even catch a ship passing by.

the take down

these guys were all up and down main street taking the lights down all day.

Friday night was the last night for this and I was glad to finally get everything all lit up.

the beach

looking toward the pier.  The tall white house you see is the ark house which you may remember.  This wee beach is good for finding pieces of pottery and sea glass which we collect to use in some of our craft projects.

theme day: photo of the year

I took this shot in August.  I like the feeling of peacefulness that I get from it.  Lough Foyle offers so much for the soul, its beauty and peace to the raging waves crashing on the rocks,  There is always something different!

Happy new year and wishing all of you  a wonderful and healthy 2017.
