drilling holes

Saw the workers drilling holes in the building.  One worker had a sweatshirt on that says Surefill Insulation so I looked them up.  Their facebook page states:
Surefill Ltd is a family business, established in 2000. We install bonded bead cavity wall and loft insulation to new build and existing private and commercial dwellings.
So I guess they were going to install some insulation.  I never heard or seen this before but found it interesting.

  1. And they really made quite a lot of holes in that house.

  3. Here you can get the problem that between isolation and the outside wal you are creating condens and if the outer wall and paint is not vapor permeable the plaster of paint will come off in winter and bricks can crack by frost. So its always better to have isolation blankets behind the outer wall with a little air cavity that slowly ventilate. ( Sorry for the long explanation but we had a lot of trouble with isolation in the past. Specially in a wet climate so as in Holland).

  4. If this had happened here, these photos would have gone to the newspapers... or been reported as not SAFE, no helmet on one of the workers. I hope all went well.

  5. That seems like a good idea to save some heating money in the winter.

  6. My dad had this type of insulation installed and it is quite quick and easy to put in plus it does keep the fuel heating bills down!

  7. This is not the real thing, this is just a drill!

  8. That seems an odd way to install insulation but, reading comments above I guess it's more common than I thought.

  9. It is a lot of work! Bill, I love your header photo. I enjoy long walks in nature in places like the one in your photo, as I find it very soothing and therapeutic, for both mental and physical health.

  10. A great way to refit an older home!

  11. We considered doing this on a house once. Patching and painting the holes was a disincentive.

  12. Een heel slim plan Bill, geldbesparing door de warmte binnen te houden.

  13. Hi Bill, I've never heard of this either; thanks for explaining.

  14. Not sure why anyone would make holes on the exterior of their home (that would have to be patched) when there are other viable alternatives. Curious. By the way, I love your new banner photo.
