the lollipop lady

a woman who is employed to help children cross the road safely near a school by holding up a circular sign on a pole to stop the traffic.

  2. In the old days I did the same in Amsterdam when I was twelve years old! The traffic must have been not that heavy in the fifties....

  6. I did this when I was in elementary school...it was a great honor. But then I stopped some cars when I wasn't supposed to and they fired me! Sheesh! She's certainly dressed for the occasion ... can't miss her.

  8. I admire these school crossing patrol workers who are usually very cheerful and helpful in all weathers! At least the people I've met at our children's school were very good!

    The Lollipop people do an important job!
